A January Recap

A January Recap

Sometimes, when the wind is howling, the wood stove blazing and the tiredness begins to seep in is the best time for me to write. Tonight is one of those nights. Only mid-January and I feel like it’s been a month already? But I guess that’s how I usually feel in January if I really think about it.

The ups and downs this month have been huge. From vet visits, fear of losing my bestie (yes my dogs are my best friends, sue me), to having my customers once again pull together and order enough out of the blue to help with vet bills. There’s been joy in getting back into the studio and being in the creative groove and there's been a lot of fear and stress on the personal side of things.

Anyone who’s had a sick pet knows the feeling of waking up at the slightest noise, worried something is going on. Like a child each time I wake up I’m checking for his chest rising and falling. I’ve been a mess in no uncertain terms.

Did you know I used to work in pet care? Specifically grooming and boarding. It’s truly amazing the impact a pet can have on your life. There are days that Pepper and Apollo are the only reason I get out of bed, their waging tails and goofy excitement helps lift the sadness and grief that the last year has brought.

Dealing with Apollo being so sick has been hard. He’s usually the most energetic, happy dog ever. Always busy and always by my side. To have him be even sicker after surgery is even scarier for me. So as I reflect on the first half of the month, I’m weighed down by sadness.

Okay friends, the month has pulled to a close and the past two weeks since I last wrote have flown by. Apollo has continued to be sick, but seems to be on the mend finally, which I am so thankful for. I have gotten to make some beautiful pieces for some beautiful people this month and have added TWO new retail shops where you can get AJS Candles!

Although I don’t feel like I’ve spend enough time in the studio, February will have to be dedicated to building my stock back up as I am back to doing markets in March. January felt too long and too short at the same time, I have a feeling February will feel too short as I try to prep.

While I wasn’t in the studio creating as much as I would’ve liked for January, I have gotten a big head start behind the scenes on planning and blog posts which is a huge plus.

That’s it for this update though! Let me know in the comments how your January was.

You can now shop candles at The Old Bistro in Fairview, AB and Wild Violet Acres in Fort Assiniboine, AB.

Here’s to a fabulous February friends.
